Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMV)
Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMV) temper the water much like a tempering valve, but also have a safety function to shut down if there was a spike in temperature or a disruption to the cold supply.
Typically servicing bathrooms and ablution fixtures used by high care, children or disabled patients like hospitals, nursing homes, child care centres or disabled facilities. They give confidence to patients that may have trouble moving quickly or in some circumstances may not even notice truly hot water. Given water can burn extremely quickly these valves serve a very important purpose.
- Water at 60°C, it takes one second for hot water to cause third-degree burns.
- Water at 55°C, it takes 10 seconds for hot water to cause third-degree burns.
- Water at 50°C, it takes five minutes for hot water to cause third-degree burns. * statistics from Vic gov website.
TMV’s in different circumstances may require different temperature settings, and need their elements replaced every 5 years, or if it fails. We carry elements for all valves as well as service kits. There is no minimum or maximum number of valves for us.
As most premises with thermostatic mixing valves are high care like nursing homes, we can supply current police checks, and proof of current flu shots and COVID vaccinations. We will check at the time of booking if there are any other site specific requirements such as needed, as well as the most convenient times for the service.
Unlike Backflow valves, TMV’s do not need to be registered with the local council or any other authority. They do require yearly certification, 5 yearly element replacement and are an important part of a facilities scold control policy.
If you have 1 or 100 that you need tested, serviced, installed or replaced, give us a call on 0419 349 697 or email info@tropicalbackflow.com.au.
